About Us
Our passion for quality beverages is born from a longstanding family love for and work in the industry. Tony’s cottage farm living grandparents were the original G&T fans inspiring a passion for home grown quality and the finest natural ingredients; Grandad used to scrimp on the gin for himself if times were hard but he always made sure that Grandma had her share. Throughout years of moving to meet the needs of the Army we were frequently based in North Yorkshire and are now proud to have put down our roots here and to be creating some exceptional and intriguing spirits and tonic water using a unique and ancient mineral water, from the heart of the Dales, combined with hand selected local botanicals.
Tony Brotherton

Tony Brotherton

Having spent 18 years in the Army, running the operational side of Yorkshire Dales Distillery is certainly a new departure for Tony. He is responsible for every aspect of production from the intake of raw materials to the careful balancing of botanicals, from artful blending to checking the quality of every bottle prior to dispatch. Brewing and distilling is in his blood, supported resettlement time has enabled the acquisition of significant further experience and he is studying on the Masters Programme at Heriot- Watt University. Not as fit as he would like to be, he is passionate about food and drink but still enjoys running, swimming, cycling and any time spent on his feet in the Dales trying to control Hugo.
Sarah Brotherton

Sarah Brotherton

Sarah was born and brought up in Middlesbrough where she initially trained as an accountant and has since served as a police officer in Stockton, in healthcare and as a teaching assistant. Her heart is in business management, having directly supported her Dad’s Teesside glass business for years, and more recently, she has run both mobile and shop based catering businesses including a fish and chip shop. Sarah leads on all matters organisational and financial ensuring the optimum presentation of our drinks, a full programme of events and that we are up to date with everyone on the emails, Facebook and Twitter. She likes nothing better than an evening on the sofa, in front of Holby City, with a decent G&T and can usually be tempted to an evening in front of the fire, with Tony and the dog, at the local.

The rest of the family

Dog
Cat
Our family is completed by Luke, Lewis, Olivia and Michael (all human…to varying degrees), Hugo the Puggle and Pepper the mouse catcher. Hugo has 2 speeds, asleep and turbo, Pepper is altogether more sedate except when she is winding Hugo up. The newest additions are 2 snow cornsnakes, Vanilla and Snowflake, but since they spend most of their time asleep they are yet to exert any influence on affairs.

This is what we do

Distilling

Distilling

We use traditional small batch distilling methods combined with modern equipment supplied by our friends at Still Dragon. Finest neutral grain spirit is rectified over a series of copper plates before the vapour is passed through a careful balance of botanicals where it is infused to create our distinctive smooth flavours.
Bottling

Bottling

All of our products are carefully bottled, capped and labelled by hand. Every bottle bears the handwritten signature of the distiller and a unique batch number.

The Home of the Ram prioritises the employment of ex-offenders, ex-service personnel and young people (including through apprenticeships) providing a wide range of vocational skills and experience. The Ram advocates responsible drinking and gets particularly grumpy about drinking and driving; he sponsors kidsafe helping to ensure that children stay safe on our roads. The Ram hates wasting energy or other resources, his bottles are sourced from the nearest supplier and he reuses heat and water whenever possible. All of his spent botanicals, and soon grain, are recycled as fertiliser or animal feed.
